It wasn't a bad poem, she just read it strangely. It had to be tough to be the follow up act to Obama's speech. poor lady.

I heard her talking on the radio the other day. I really like her.

I'm sure it will be available somewhere. :D

I wonder if there were certain Americanisms in it that just didn't translate. Your English is really incredibly good, but there are those quirks of language that are sometimes difficult in translation, even from American to British English. The poem was so American in symbolism and tropes, it strikes me that it would be odd to even British ears.

Of course, that was just my first take. I want to read it too. I'm going to have to look around on the internet.

i'll have a look - i understood everything (i think!) up until when i stopped listening :P there probably are some words impossible to translate in it, because there are plenty in the english language - more than you can think of :P however, i usually look up words on english dictionaries when i don't know them so even though i wouldn't be able to tell the meaning in italian i do know it in english!

Yeah, you definitely have a great grasp of the language, far beyond just comprehension. I'm always amazed my f-list friends who are bilingual. So impressive. :D

Just want to say, the sight of Bush's retreating helicopter is one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen.

thank you very much, even though i don't really believe it to be so impressive when somebody knows their native language + english... english is so common! it's like if one spoke two native languages instead of one in my eyes :P

i missed that!! i turned off once i saw everybody leaving. oh well, i think it's going to end up on youtube at some point, hah.

well, i can't find it online yet cause it was written specifically for the inauguration! i guess we'll have to wait for a few days to tear it apart word by word and do a good review from a linguistics point of view :P

That's exactly what I was thinking. It was more like a speech.

But she had a nice voice and was a good speaker, so.
